This area which is known for its high rates of crime has been receiving global attention lately due to the Diepsloot Youth Project. Started by Napsali Khanyile and his friends, they are using their influence and resources to reduce crime in this area.

They have started by giving a chance to young men who have committed petty crimes like theft, vandalism and some misdemeanors like drug peddling or even gang-rape. They also attend regular classes that help them to become productive members of society and lead safe lives. Crime has always been a part of life, and it’s important to address it head on! So when Diepsloot Youth Project launched its first-ever crime awareness campaign, the idea was to prevent crime and ensure a safe neighbourhood for everyone.

The campaign kicked off with an open dialogue between local residents, youth leaders and law enforcement officials. Next up were community events that were designed as a fun way to increase awareness about crime and safety. And then there was the brand new Diepsloot Youth Project Crime Captains program. This innovative initiative aims to teach young people how to report crime and keep their neighbourhoods safe.
