One person was killed in a suspected mob justice attack in the Diepsloot area on Saturday. The victim was identified as Nabil. He was reportedly beaten up and his throat slit by a group of people in unknown circumstances.

Nabil’s family lives in a rented home in the area and has been living there for years now. His relatives say that he was innocent and never hurt anyone. But sometime ago, he had an altercation with some people over petty issues. According to family members, another family had taken away a piece of land which Nabil claimed as his own.”If I want to settle down here, then other people have to give up their land,” he told them.

Nabil’s grandfather says that his grandson had no enmity towards anyone, but still someone felt so bad about him that they didn’t even spare his life.”I lost my grandson today at most tender age of 30,” tears flowing down the old man’s cheeks, “what will happen to us now?”

A 1-year-old boy was killed and his father critically injured after they were allegedly attacked by a mob in south Johannesburg on Friday.

The two were walking home when they were waylaid by a group of men who then proceeded to attack them, Johannesburg police spokesman Captain Adele Myburgh said.

“It is alleged that the two victims have been involved in crime,” he said. “They were stabbed multiple times.”

The incident happened near the Diepsloot train station at around 6:30 pm. A passer-by saw them lying injured and immediately called for help from the police.

Police patrols arrived shortly and arrested six suspects aged between 16 to 20 years old. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, but it’s possible that it could have been over a theft committed earlier in the day, according to News24.

A mob justice attack on a person in the name of mob protection has left the whole of Diepsloot shocked. In yet another incident which shows how vulnerable people are when it comes to settling petty issues and differences, one youth was killed in a mob fury on Sunday night.

According to the police, around 10-15 miscreants attacked the youth with knives and other weapons after he allegedly made an obscene gesture at them. In no time, he was on his knees and bleeding out. The crowd became unruly and started assaulting him. A few have been arrested so far but it’s too early to say if all of them are guilty or not.

Now this is just appalling! What matters most is protecting the rights of any person irrespective of whether he is a criminal or not? How can we expect peace when people don’t respect each other and settle differences through violence? Or should we call those who do so ‘mobs’? I believe there are quite enough of those mobs roaming around our streets spreading fear among everyone! Come together and keep each other safe!

A desperate call for help ended up in a 1-a person killed in what looks like mob justice attack. According to eye witnesses, the victim has been spotted on CCTV footage that was kept at a salon in Diepsloot. The accused have been identified as Alemayehu Teyse, 28 and a woman named Ashanthi, 24 who had gone there along with Teyse. They came over to the salon and when they were asked to explain why they were being seen by the staff, they got irate and started thrashing them. When the staff explained to them that it is wrong to do so, Alemayehu hit one of them with his car keys and fled away from the scene.

Diepsloot Youth Project is requesting you to find Alemayehu Teyse so that he can be booked under law and given exemplary punishment for his crime. The youth program wants justice for all and real protection for its residents who are above 18 years of age.

In a senseless act of mob justice, one person was killed in Diepsloot on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Rashid Shafit. A passerby saw the victim being assaulted after he accidentally bumped into him while riding a bicycle. When Rashid fell unconscious, the mob continued to beat him up till his death arrived at hospital.

Vigil for Rashid will be held on Sunday at 1:30pm at the same place where he was murdered. Join us in supporting his family and friends as they mourn this loss.
