Choir competitions are fun, but do you know what makes them more exciting? It’s when the choir is all about building community. That’s exactly what Diepsloot Youth Project does with its annual choir competition.
The event brings together youth from all backgrounds and interests for a night of singing and celebrating music. It’s a huge hit with kids and their parents alike, who flock to the event from across Johannesburg to cheer on their favorite singers. After the competition is over, we have cake and karaoke, so it’s a party in true South African style!
What is choirmaster like? How to coach a team of kids to perform and get an applause-filled audience? Well, that’s what Diepsloot Youth Project is here for!
The Annual Diepsloot Choir Competition brings people together from various backgrounds and cultures, who are fascinated by music. The Youth Project hosts live performances every week, where they come together to sing in harmony. It’s a great way for them to bond and express their feelings through music.
The joy of singing and music has been a delight to many. So, in an attempt to foster talent amongst the youth, Diepsloot Youth Project hosts an annual choir competition. The participants perform two songs during the competition -one that they have chosen from various albums and online videos and another song that is given to them by a jury member. This competition is usually held at the start of December. There are no restrictions on age or gender for participation and participating students are awarded with different certificates after their performance. Their efforts always go unpunished because it is about enjoying music!
The sounds of children singing in unison can be heard all over Diepsloot. From kindergarten to high school, these streets are filled with music that has been made possible through the efforts of Diepsloot Youth Project (DYP).
This annual competition is a chance for students from across the municipality to showcase their talent and, most importantly, bond as they participate in fun activities all while singing together. With a variety of events that involve chorus and dance, there’s something for everyone! See you on the stage!
