World over, plastic pollution is becoming an issue. And it is really making us feel helpless. But now, we can help change the narrative with a building project.
The Diepsloot Youth Project has partnered with Plastic4Peace to build classrooms from plastic waste in Diepsloot. The first phase of this project was successfully completed last month and the school is already getting its use out of the new addition. The next phase will see the construction of various community facilities where plastic waste will be processed into building material to make sustainable homes for the future generation in our area.
Do you have plastic waste lying around your house? Plenty of people do, but most of them don’t know how it can be used for something good. Meet Diepsloot Youth Project, a group of students who are turning plastic waste into classrooms for underprivileged kids.
It all started when a group of students from the nearby school noticed that there was plastic waste lying around their neighborhood. They decided to take action and came up with a novel idea to use this material in the form of classrooms for schools nearby. Today, the youth project has built over 40%$40%of their desired number of classrooms.
Plastic waste has become a major problem in our environment, and Diepsloot Youth Project is working towards solving this issue. The organization is building classrooms from plastic waste and imparting education to students in the area so that they can be part of the solution. In this program, they teach students about sustainability, recycling, and making products from their own resources. There is also a program that provides training in sewing and carpentry skills so that these students have a skill set to create their own furniture or even become entrepreneurs.
By participating in the Diepsloot Youth Project programs you are contributing towards reducing plastic pollution; you are helping bring about positive change; and you are playing an active role in making our planet cleaner and greener for future generations!
When you live in a place where every nook and corner contains plastic waste, it becomes a habit to gather what is left. You end up donating it to the nearest organization that does plastic waste management. Diepsloot Youth Project is one such organization which works towards making the streets of your cities litter-free.
The project builds classrooms from plastic waste, thereby reducing waste and creating awareness.
Dye sloot is a huge contributor to plastic waste in South Africa, and it has now become a cause for concern. With landfills filling up, there is a need to take measures to reduce plastic waste. And when people from different walks of life come together for a cause, the result is bound to be fruitful.
Over the last few months, Diepsloot Youth Project has been organizing building classes from plastic waste in Diepsloot. Materials like PE sheets, cardboard boxes, and PET bottles are being used to make classrooms where kids can study and stay focused on their work. And with every new classroom that gets built, 1 less kilogram of plastic waste is added to the landfills!
