A crime as heinous as this deserves exemplary punishment, and that is exactly what the Diepsloot Youth Project is aiming at. On Monday, April 9, the project conducted its first D-Day with seven men arrested for the mob murder in Diepsloot of a 28-year-old man last month. The youth project aims at turning these offenders into law-abiding citizens who can serve their society by being an inspiration to others.
D-Day is a gathering where youth project members and supporters come together to show their support for the project and pledge to be part of it in whatever way they can.
A group of seven men arrested for the brutal mob murder of a youth in Diepsloot, Soweto, was today brought to book at the Orlando Magistrate’s Court. The accused are aged between 19-22 years and have been charged with murder, aggravated robbery and housebreaking. They were arrested on 5th June while they were fleeing after committing the heinous crime. The gruesome incident happened at around 2am last Wednesday when seven people attacked a 24-year-old man in Diepsloot and stabbed him to death.
Diepsloot is a violent suburb of Johannesburg where seven men were stabbed to death by a mob of about 200 last week. The DA Youth Project Diepsloot is on the ground and has started with D-Day’s for the seven men arrested for the mob murder. In order to change the narrative, we are trying to reach out to each youth, so that they know that they are not alone but there is support available if they want it.
We will stand with them and ensure that justice prevails.
On 31 August, seven men were arrested for their alleged involvement in the mob murder of a youth in Diepsloot on 22 August. Six of them had been arrested earlier and booked under SC/ST Act, while one was picked up from Delhi. As per the reports, the main accused involved in the case is a political leader. The men have been remanded to police custody till 2 September. This is just one example of how our society treats its marginalised and oppressed citizens. It is our duty to keep an eye on these kinds of activities and do our best to ensure that justice is served to all regardless of caste or creed.
Seven men who are accused of involvement in the brutal murder of a 27-year- old man in Diepsloot on January 16, 2018, were remanded till June 25. The case relates to an alleged robbery at Lillydale Farm in November 2017, in which one person died during the incident. In the recent D-Day for these men, the chargesheet has been filed against them and they will soon be appearing before the court on all counts related to the case.
While we wait for justice, let’s come together and stand for those who are oppressed and marginalised. Let’s show our support in their time of need!
