The youth of Diepsloot are fighting crime and poverty on a daily basis. In an effort to give them a fighting chance, Diepsloot Youth Project (DYPRO) has offered various social and economic development initiatives since 2013. The goal of the project is to create a sustainable future for the youth through economic growth and social inclusion. However, it may take some time before the residents of this troubled neighborhood feel safe once again.

The word ‘Diepsloot’ sounds like a foreign one to most people. But, if you live there or visit the place, you’ll know that it’s the name of the area that is synonymous with crime. For years now, Diepsloot has been gripped by violence and its residents are often seen as victims in media reports. The Youth Project aims to change this perception and make Diepsloot a model for development.

The Youth Project started off with a vision – to create a safe space where children can grow up in peace and security – through activities like sports tournaments and raffles for school funds. But over time, the project has diversified into other areas such as counseling services and micro-finance programs. They have already made a difference in many lives, so next time you hear about Diepsloot, think not just of crime but of love and understanding!

Diepsloot Youth Project is a community-based crime prevention initiative that aims to empower youth in the area. With every passing day, it becomes more crucial than ever to establish a strong, sustainable network of support for crime victims. DYP supports and provides services for those who have suffered from crime or are in danger because of their involvement with crime. In addition, they conduct education campaigns and hold workshops so people understand the value of reporting crimes and working together to prevent them.

They offer skills-based training to youth on how they can better understand the criminal justice system, stay safe online, and reduce the risk of being victimized by taking responsibility for their own safety. Crime isn’t something that should be feared, but something that should be understood and prevented. Diepsloot Youth Project is a non-profit organization that wants to change the future of this impoverished territory by providing education and opportunities to young people. With more than 10% unemployment in Diepsloot, many of them are forced to take up crime in order to make a living. Through our projects and programs, we want to give these young people a better future by providing them with education and jobs. We will also build houses for them so that they can have a stable home after school.
