What starts as a group of idle kids, soon turns into a team of energetic volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that their community gets the much-needed electricity. The Diepsloot Youth Project is a non-profit initiative run by volunteers for the welfare of the underprivileged youth living in the area. Since its inception in 2016, it has been providing free literacy classes and sports programs to over 100 kids.
The project has also installed solar panels and LED lights in over 20 schools across the district. The project’s aim is to transform lives and uplift communities by aiding disadvantaged children towards self-reliance and success.
Crime is on the rise in Diepsloot and children are especially vulnerable. They often walk to school or are dropped off at night, making them easy targets for criminals. We want to change that by offering them brighter prospects — and electricity! With your help, we can bring light and power to this community, so they can live safely and confidently. Don’t let these kids sleep in the dark any longer! Meet us halfway and help us change a life for the better.
When darkness sets in, the streets of Diepsloot become a lawless place where children dare to roam at night and criminals operate with impunity. This is the reality for many residents in this sprawling township, and it’s why the Diepsloot Youth Project has been working day and night to bring some light into their lives.
Thanks to the charity’s tireless efforts, more than 200 residents have received solar lights that not only keep them safe during the night, but also help them save money by using less energy. The project has also installed weather-stripping in homes so that windows don’t get broken by rain or wind; and it has provided security cameras so that criminals are held accountable for their deeds.
The creators of this remarkable initiative deserve recognition for helping a marginalized community achieve some much-needed peace of mind.
Crime and violence are rampant in the Diepsloot community. Most of the youth there have been exposed to these evil deeds at an early age. The problem is so severe that it’s being referred to as a ‘powder keg’ by the police. To address this problem, Diepsloot Youth Project (DYP) has come up with a novel solution that could prove to be a game-changer in the fight against crime. Addressing the problem head on, DYP has proposed a solution involving installing electricity connections in government schools in order to reduce crime levels.
Schools have been chosen based on their proximity to high crime areas, and they will soon receive new power connections from Eskom. The project is expected to improve safety for children and adolescents in the area, provide them with access to critical resources such as electricity and computers, and most importantly, help them crack down on crime. If successful, this could go a long way in changing perceptions about crimes committed by minors and young people.
Crime is a serious issue in the Diepsloot area, and many residents have been complaining about it for years now. But there seems to be no end in sight. Residents say that crime has become so rampant that even children dread venturing out of their homes at night. Do you have any idea why this chaos prevails in the area?
It’s because there’s no electricity here! For years, people have been helplessly watching their lives get affected due to lack of electricity. With Diepsloot Youth Project, those days are finally over! We aim to bring electricity to the poor neighborhood by doing volunteer work. You can join us and help make Diepsloot a better place to live in!
