An abandoned building in a working class neighborhood? Sounds like the perfect place for a Youth Project, doesn’t it? But when Diepsloot Youth Project started its work there, they found themselves facing many challenges. The biggest one being the hostile locals; who were threatening, intimidating and rude even at the drop of a hat! But the Youth Project didn’t give up. Instead, they fought back and began to change the mindset of their community. They spoke up and raised awareness about youth issues like bullying and delinquency, which eventually made a huge difference. People began to open up to them and trust them. Today Diepsloot Youth Project is more active than ever, making a difference in their community by providing free classes on positive thought, life skills training, etc. They also make it their mission to spread the word about their work amongst other youth organizations or even schools so that everyone can have an opportunity to change lives for the better.

Diepsloot is the biggest hub of youth in the country. More than 60% of citizens living there are between 15 and 35 years old. These youth have witnessed many changes that have taken place in the past few decades, and they’re making sure to be a part of it all.

Diepsloot Youth Project is working towards creating a positive influence on these youngsters. They’re using various methods to create awareness about gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, and employment. And the best part is that they’re doing it all free of cost.

They are hosting workshops, youth exchanges, and many more programs to give the youth a chance to explore their interests and try new things! With the help of some amazing volunteers and sponsors, they have made an impact on the community and hope to do so more in the future!

DYP offers them a secure environment in which they can heal and rebuild their lives. The project also provides them with the support they need to reach their full potential – whether that means education, employment, or even reconciliation with those who have harmed them.
