Youth is all about discovering new things, trying new things, and forging ahead in life. For many youth in the city, this poses a problem because of their lack of resources and means to explore. That is why we are proud to present Diepsloot Youth Project (DYP) Explora!

DYP Explora is an initiative that aims to provide youth in Diepsloot with the resources they need to become confident and self-assured individuals. We provide them with opportunities for exploration that will help them grow and develop into well-rounded members of society.

Through programming such as art classes, dance classes, gymnastics classes, etc., we aim to provide our participants with a variety of skills that will help them succeed in their future endeavours. By sharing their stories through blogs, videos, and photography projects on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc., we want to make a difference in the lives of these young people by increasing their visibility and championing their right to be themselves.

Say hello to Diepsloot Explora, a brand new way of experiencing Diepsloot! We’re changing how people see this area and its youth culture by providing them with an opportunity to explore Diepsloot in a holistic and safe manner. The Youth Project is a collaboration between the Diepsloot Development Agency, the Johannesburg Tourism Department, and South Africa Tourism.

We believe that by working together we can make a difference in the lives of our residents; that’s why we host monthly workshops on topics such as art, dance, fashion, food and expression. This project is about giving back to our community and empowering youth to take charge of their own futures. Whether you’re an experienced traveler or simply new to Diepsloot, you’ll get a taste of what it’s like to live here when you visit us!

Our Youth Project program offers a variety of activities that explore the rich diversity of our community, including arts and crafts, health and wellness programs, youth development, and more. We also offer an array of services that help you stay safe – whether it’s talking to a confidentr empowered youth about online safety or requesting escorts for a community event. In addition to our programs and services, we’re proud to partner with local organizations who are making a difference in our community. From offering free clothes to homeless youth to providing legal aid, we’re committed to making a difference that lasts.

Youth are our future, and now is the time to invest in them. Why should we do that? It’s simple – because they’re the ones who will inherit our youth culture and keep it alive in the next generation. Through Diepsloot Youth Project, we’re doing our part to ensure that happens by offering young South Africans a sense of identity through creative expression.

Explora is a youth-led arts program that encourages participants to explore their creativity and develop new skill sets. Each Explora session offers participants a unique opportunity to express themselves through various art forms. Participants learn new techniques and apply them creatively, while also developing a portfolio of work that can be showcased at events or used as inspiration for furthering their careers in the arts.
