A youth project that reaches out to the marginalised youngsters in Diepsloot is not a new concept. What is unique about this project is its holistic approach.Ranging from education to employment, everything about their model is aimed at making a difference. They believe that it’s not just about changing their lives, but also changing the society around them so that everyone has equal opportunities and no one is left behind.

They started with 30 kids and now have 600 kids enrolled in their classes. In 5 years’ time, they hope to change the face of crime in Diepsloot forever.

Lives at the fringe of society are never easy, but when it gets compounded by gender and age-based discrimination, life becomes unfair and even more difficult. That is what the residents of Diepsloot Extension 7 feel. They have lived their lives in this ‘forgotten’ area, shunned by most as a source of crime and chaos. But these days, they are making sure that no young person goes through such an ordeal ever again.

On Tuesday evening, they congregate at Project Diepsloot to learn skills and gain employability. By teaching them new things every day, they strive to bring about change in the community where people fear for their safety on the road alone at night.

Kids are often seen as being a source of joy in our lives. But when they face many hardships what do they do? They seem to rise above it and conquer it together. Meet ‘Diepsloot Youth Project’ who is doing just that. This project has been present in the area for a while now and has been making an impact on the lives of the kids there. Ranging from art to zumba, these kids know their stuff and want to be seen as leaders in their neighbourhood. One of the biggest challenges faced by residents of Diepsloot is lack of proper education. However, with the Youth Project coming up, this problem is gradually coming to an end. We at Diepsloot Youth Project believe that education is one of the biggest ways to empower a person and help them take control of his life. That’s why we’re making sure that all children enrolled in our project are getting the best possible education they can get. Along with this, we’re also providing them with opportunities so that they can pursue their dreams and make their lives happier. Thanks to us, soon everyone in Diepsloot will be able to say that they know how to read and write!
