Diepsloot Youth Project is a waste disposal initiative taking place right in the heart of the township. With over a decade’s worth of experience, they have an excellent understanding of how to effectively manage waste on a large scale. For their latest venture, they have decided to expand their offerings by including plastic waste as well. In just one weekend, they managed to collect over 1 tonne of plastic waste from different parts of Diepsloot.
Diepsloot Youth Project is truly making an impact on the lives of those living in the township and we are honoured to be apart of it!
When you think of Diepsloot, plastic waste and litter is what comes to your mind first. Youth Project Diepsloot aims to change that perception. They have been running for over 10 years now and have created a safe haven for the youth in Diepsloot. They offer them opportunities, mentorship, and counseling to help them build a stable life. But they also want everyone to know about their project so that they can create an impact on the environment as well.
Die Slooth is a beautiful place where you can find peace and serenity amidst all the chaos taking place around you. DYP has come as a blessing in disguise and will help keep this beautiful land clean forever!
Diepsloot is a notorious dumping ground for plastic waste. But it does not have to be like that anymore! Youth Project Diepslote is launching an initiative to rid the suburb of its plastic menace. The project intends to collect plastic waste from houses, businesses, and other places in the area, and then recycle it at a local facility. Not only will the fly-by-night operators get the message now, but residents too will know that their garbage is being handled responsibly.
Preach it! Love it!
Youth empowerment is all the rage these days, and Diepsloot Youth Project is making sure that the youth in their community are empowered. They do this by providing them with opportunities and resources to become active and contributing members of our communities.
Diepsloot Youth Project was started by social entrepreneur Malaika Moswle in 2013 when she realized that there was a dire need for environmental awareness in the community – garbage disposal being a key concern. She began collecting plastic waste from various places to educate the youth on how they can help clean up their surroundings. After a year, the number of volunteers increased and now the team has expanded its reach further by providing educational resources to the youth on topics like eco-friendly living, mindfulness, nutrition, etc.
Not all bad things are born equal. Some are dangerous, some are immoral and some are simply unwanted. Like these plastic bags that litter the streets of Diepsloot. Kids in the neighborhood pick them up frequently, wondering or suspecting that there may be a treasure inside those bags.
But there’s much more to it than that! There’s a Youth Project being run by volunteers who take pride in cleaning up Diepsloot and making it a better place to live in. When they find unwanted goods like bags and other plastic waste, they make sure to segregate them so that they can be recycled or reused elsewhere. They do this because every little bit counts when it comes to keeping Diepsloot clean, as well as making our lives safer from pollution and garbage!
