Water is life, and we all know how important it is to stay hydrated. That’s why the Diepsloot Youth Project has set up a water station in Diepsloot for residents to fill their jugs with clean water. Volunteers from the project also conduct regular health education sessions at local schools about the importance of drinking pure water. This project is making a difference not only by providing residents with clean water but also by spreading awareness about its health benefits.

While every mother dreads the thought of her child getting injured, what she doesn’t know that it is one of the most severe forms of child abuse. The youth project Diepsloot in Johannesburg is trying to change this perception, and it has come up with a campaign aimed at enlightening mothers about this serious issue.
One such mother who got enlightened about child abuse is Kgwena Mkhuna, who says the campaign by the youth project has encouraged many mothers to speak up and act on various forms of violence against kids. I am happy that my son is getting awareness and support from such a noble initiative that lets him know he’s not alone. He has many people around him who care for his wellbeing,” she said.
When you live in a place like Diepsloot, for which water scarcity is a way of life, the need for clean water becomes paramount. And that’s when Diepsloot Youth Project stepped in. The youth project is providing clean water to its residents by installing a solar-powered tapping system.
Out of the 20 taps installed, 17 are working 100% and the last one has been installed only recently. But the project isn’t restricted to just taps. They have also setup an irrigation system using rainwater harvesting techniques. It not only provides clean water but also helps in alleviating groundwater contamination. With a smile on their faces and their heads held high, these young leaders are making lives better for those who couldn’t even imagine it could be any different.
It’s not everyday that you get to work with the city’s most coveted resource. But at Diepsloot Youth Project, we rely on it every day to provide shelter, education and food for South Africa’s most marginalised communities.
DYProject has been a part of Johannesburg since 1989 and is a non-profit organisation that strives to create sustainable change in these communities. We believe in providing holistic care, empowering youth and building strong relationships that last a lifetime. Our youth project is an example of how we do this – by providing them with the resources they need to successfully transition into adulthood and become contributing members of society.
There are few places that look as similar and feel as much as home for the youth, who have no choice but to stay there for their own safety, considering how crime-ridden it is. This is where DYP comes in. Based in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, DYP provides a safe haven for the disadvantaged youth of the area. They offer them an opportunity to pursue their education or take up employment in a professional setting, while also teaching them life skills that will help them become contributing members of society.
DYP is changing lives one youth at a time by providing them with hope and empowerment.
