For many, their neighbourhood is a place where they feel safe and secure. A place where they can relax, grow and learn without any form of crime or harm. In some communities, parents instill this idea in children from an early age. But for many youth in Diepsloot, it is not so. The youth there feel unsafe and worried about their safety at night. This project aims to change that perception by empowering the youth in Diepsloot with the confidence and skills they need to overcome any challenge that comes their way.

They call themselves Diepsloot Youth Project because they believe in empowering one another and building strength in numbers. They are a group of young men and women who want to make a difference in your community, who want to show you what it means to be strong, who want to inspire others to fight for what is right and in doing so become leaders of tomorrow%.

The youth of Johannesburg is a lost generation that has been severely affected by crime and its accompanying factors.

DYP is changing the narrative, one youth at a time. With programs that provide holistic interventions, DYP is working towards ending youth crime in Diepsloot. We offer a variety of services to those who have fallen victim to crime or are dealing with the fallout of crime – whether it’s through counselling, life-skills classes, or job-creation workshops. Our aim is to restore hope in our youth and empower them with the skills they need to make positive changes in their lives and communities.

Situated in Johannesburg, Diepsloot Youth Project has been making a positive difference in the lives of young people for over 30 years. The youth project offers young people a host of services and programs that aim to empower them, enhance their mental health and build their self-esteem. Activities include mentoring, arts and crafts classes, music and dance classes, sports development, youth clubs and forums, and much more. The youth of Diepsloot are in a state of perpetual disrepair. They’re underprepared for their future prospects, uneducated, lacking employment opportunities and living in an area that lacks resources. However, with the help of Diepslote Youth Project (DY Project), these young men and women are ready to take on the world. DY Project believes that by investing in our children now, we can create a more prosperous tomorrow for all.

Through a variety of programmes, we aim to build children’s self-esteem and social skills, while also equipping them with quality education so they can pursue further studies once they leave school. We believe that by investing in our youth today, we’re setting them up for success tomorrow!

We believe that every child has the capacity to do great things, and we want to give them the opportunity to realize their full potential. We offer a variety of programs that help young people develop social skills, improve their academic performance, and gain confidence. Since our inception in 2009, we’ve made a significant impact on the lives of many young people in Johannesburg.
