A church in a slum is an oxymoron, but Diepsloot Methodist Church believes that faith can be the driving force behind change. The youth wing of the church runs programs for marginalized youth, and build their confidence as they learn new skills and gain exposure to life outside their slum. With its community outreach activities, the Youth Project is a beacon of hope for many in the neighborhood.

The youth wing of the church has been working for over 20 years now with an aim to create meaningful change in the lives of those who are marginalized by gender, race, or religion. Educating them about things like sexual health and gender equality helps break down barriers that society imposes on them. They also impart valuable life skills like how to speak up in adverse situations, how to make friends confidently, etc. Young people are seen not just as objects that need fixing but also as important contributors to society who deserve equal rights and opportunities.

Youth Project is a non-formal counselling and learning center for under privileged youth. The youths spend quality time at the Project where they learn new skills and gain knowledge to help them on their way. This safe space helps them understand their emotions and find solutions to their problems. The church has been making a difference in many lives since 2001, and we aim to continue this legacy.

‘What do you know about Diepsloot?’ We all have heard this question before. And when we give an answer like, ‘We are the Youth Project of Diepsloot Methodist Church,’ we get a lot of questions about our goals and activities.

We do not just want to teach people about Diepsloot; we also want to bring about change in the neighbourhood through a variety of programs. The youth project is one of these programs that aims to help young people develop their leadership skills and build a better tomorrow.

We organize workshops, camps, and discussions on topics like leadership, life skills, and more.

We believe that every child deserves a chance at happiness and success. That’s why we’re here for you – to provide a safe space where you can explore your interests, develop your talents, and find your place in the world. Diepsloot Youth Project is a non-profit organisation that aims at developing the skills of unemployed youth in various domains. Aged between 18 and 30 years, they are provided with training in basic computer programming, web designing, and other skill sets that are in demand. They also receive counseling and life skills training to help them reintegrate with society.
