All told, there are about 180 000 people living in Diepsloot, a densely populated township in Johannesburg. What started as a small slum project has now become a youth development organization that aims to provide education and employment opportunities to the youth of Diepsloot. Under the leadership of founder Kate Danie, the project currently runs four schools and three factories across the township.

What started out as an idea has now turned into a movement that is changing lives one at a time.

Youth unemployment has never been so high. And with good reason: Youth today face complex and challenging employment prospects, juggling school and jobs alike. This is why Diepsloot Youth Project is dedicated to creating an ecosystem that will enable youth to thrive in the workplace and pursue their career goals.

DYP works towards this through a variety of initiatives that aim to create a conducive environment for young people to flourish in. These include mentoring programs, skill-building workshops, and employment opportunities for youth.
