Youth-led organizations are a great alternative to the conventional ways of engaging and reaching out to a group. Youth who have grown up in slum areas have started many such initiatives and have been working towards making a change in their neighborhood. They are giving importance to youth development, creating awareness, spreading happiness, and improving the overall living conditions in the area. With this project, Youth Project Diepsloot has gone one step ahead to engage with them.

Children are given toys and games to play with at the Diepsloot Youth Project, but the kids did not seem interested in it. They were more interested in that machine over there. ‘Can we take a ride on it?’ they shouted while pointing to a new-fangled contraption. Curious by nature, these children from various slums of Johannesburg want to know every detail about their environment and life beyond the city limits.

The youth project aims to spread awareness among the youth about health, education, and civic responsibilities. It also gives them skills so that they can contribute towards making their country a better place.
