A youth project that aims to reduce the high crime rate in Diepsloot area, has come up with an interesting way of doing so. Youth leaders within the project have taken it upon themselves to teach young people in the area a new skill – surfing. All this while also contributing towards crime reduction efforts in the neighborhood. Isnt that amazing?

The youth leaders are holding regular classes to teach kids how to surf safely, and supervising them during their lessons. They are also tying up with local schools to arrange group surfing sessions for students on weekends. This initiative by DYP is sure making a difference!

Diepsloot Youth Project has been an integral part of the development process in Diepsloot, one of Johannesburg’s most marginalized areas. It strives to create opportunities and fosters skills that will enable young people to take ownership of their future. The Project aims to empower youth by providing them with a solid foundation upon which they can build a successful life.

Through workshops, mentoring, and community service programs, DYP is building strong foundations so that these young men and women can become leaders in tomorrow’s society.
