A few days living in a broken world can make you lose confidence. But, when you live in Diepsloot, where crime and violence are on the rise, everything seems uncertain. The youth of this area face many challenges such as school dropouts, unemployment, drug abuse, and gang activities. Even though there is a police station near that area, it can’t be said to be equipped with best technology, which is why they have called the Diepsloot Youth Project.
The youth project has deployed more than 200 CCTV cameras in Diepsloot so that crimes can be prevented before they take place. The deployment of these cameras will help give an insight into the crime and violence that’s taking place around us. We need a solution to save our city from criminals, and the Youth Project is just that!
The Joint Management Committee (JMC) of Diepsloot has decided to deploy more police personnel in the area as it is trying its best to restore calm. A majority of the residents have found peace since the deployment of policemen, who are taking steps to curb crime and restore law and order.
Diepsloot Youth Project is grateful that people are supporting us in our efforts to make Diepsloot a safe place for all residents. Thank you!
Residents of Diepsloot in Johannesburg have found themselves living in fear since a police station was burnt down and unknown assailants opened fire on police officers. The youth of the community are advocating for action to be taken and are keeping the leadership updated. Meet some of them:
Sisqo: Student who is always ready to help out where she can. Sisi is working on getting volunteers or leaders to come out and help restore order in the area.
Kushal: A young man who has seen both sides of this conflict and wants it to end as soon as possible. He runs a youth group that comes out almost every day, especially during weekends, to keep the peace in Diepsloot.
And finally, Mpho: Who understands the situation better than her? Mpho’s uncle lives in Diepsloot and he knows what is going on better than anyone else does. This time around, Mpho has come out with an idea for a party for his aunt (the one who lives there), which will be attended by many locals from different communities, like hers…
When trouble strikes, people look for an immediate solution. Even though Diepsloot is known for its crime rate, the youth and police department have decided to take a different approach. They’re working overtime to restore peace and order in Diepsloot. With more police deployed at key points and a dedicated team of youth, the aim is to curb crime and prevent it from rising in the first place.
This shows that there’s no compromise on giving back to our community. One city, one voice!
The police are taking no chances in the area where a shootout took place yesterday. They have deployed more personnel there, and are stepping up security all around.+$%They’re also working to restore calm and normalcy in the area. We stand with them, and believe that the perpetrators of this violence will be caught soon.
Together, we can make Diepsloot safer and more secure for everyone who lives there!
