Diepsloot Youth Project officials organised a meeting at the Diepsloot Youth Centre to engage with residents. Delivering on its promise to work closely with residents and understand their needs, the project has identified several areas of focus during its initial phase. The major areas of attention include youth development, health, education, and employment. To explore these issues in detail, DYP team members held discussions with various stakeholders in the area last week.

Do you know that every year, almost 200 children are trafficked in Johannesburg? To help combat this issue and raise awareness about it, Diepsloot Youth Project organised a meeting at their centre. The Centre provides a safe space for children to express themselves freely and develop their creative talents. It also offers educational programs that equip them with the necessary skills to succeed in life. In addition, by providing young people access to services such as counselling, mentorship, and job training, these programs play a crucial role in helping them rebuild their lives.

A youth meet organised by the Diepsloot Youth Project officials? Sounds interesting, right! So, when we heard this, we knew we had to attend. And boy! Was it worth attending. The main purpose of the programme is to create awareness among the youth about their rights and responsibilities, and how they can contribute towards a better society. Representatives from various departments such as police, municipality, etc were present at the venue for the discussion. They spoke about different issues that affect young people’s lives in an engaging manner. After listening to them speak, you would want to do something about it too!

Have you ever thought that you can make a difference in someone else’s life?

Diepsloot Youth Project has been doing just that since its inception. The project organises meetings every week in which residents are invited to discuss their issues, and how they can be solved. These sessions are held on a Monday evening, and anyone who wishes to attend is welcome to do so. The officials at the Diepsloot Youth Project believe that talking things out is the best way of solving problems, and they want everyone to understand this too.
