While celebrating the World Cup, a group of people in Diepsloot were injured when some unidentified people started hurling stones and injuring them. This is shocking, as obviously no one should support such action.

The senior police officials have already reached the spot to quell the violence and restore peace. Several people have been arrested for pelting stones on innocent civilians, who had no idea about the reason behind it.

We’ve all heard about the unfortunate incidents that take place in our cities, but what about when it comes to youth? We like to think that us as citizens are educated to stay away from such people, but when did we start calling them names and giving them a bad name?

This shouldn’t be happening in our country. In order to change that, a group of social workers came together to work on an initiative called Diepsloot Youth Project. The idea was simple – they would get together at least once every week and spend time with these youth. It’s what they call ‘life skills’ classes where they teach them important things like how not to fall prey for fraudsters, or how to drive safely without causing accidents or harming themselves.

All this does is educate the youth and also spreads positivity in the society. They have been changing lives since the day 1!

It is said that every 13 minutes in the world, someone dies because of mob violence.

But what if it’s actualized in a neighborhood where almost every member is related? What if over 100 people come together to stop this menace before it gets out of hand? That’s what Diepsloot Youth Project has been doing since 2010. The project works on two fronts – by empowering young people and preventing violence. They run community initiatives and impart life skills like leadership, conflict resolution, and self-defense. Their goal is simple – to live peaceful lives and make Diepsloot a safe place for everyone else to do the same.

When the state of our schools and streets are not addressed, we become numb to it. When a mob attack takes place in our city, we feel helpless and don’t know whom to approach for help. And when you add a dash of unemployment, drug abuse, and disrepair in your life, things get even more complicated.

But that’s not the case with Diepsloot Youth Project! With their help, the youth of Diepsloot has begun to turn their lives around by getting jobs and trying new things. As a result, they are becoming strong individuals who can advocate for themselves when times get tough.

A mob attack in Diepsloot, where a man was killed? This is an incident that makes you wonder when such things are taking place in the country. It’s said that everyone has the right to life, but he was paying for it with his life. The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, but what we do know is that it has already left many people feeling helpless and shocked as to what led them to take such a step.

That’s why it’s our duty as citizens of this world to fight violence with even more violence so that these incidents don’t continue taking innocent lives.
