This is a tale of two schools, different in every possible way. Rabasotho Combined School, located in Diepsloot, is a school for the children of working class and marginalized families. On the other hand, Diepsloot Youth Project School is for the children of affluent South Africa. This school caters to the educational needs of these children who are living with or at risk of homelessness. With this project, they want to create equal opportunities in education by ensuring that they have access to our modern teaching methods, quality education and specialist teachers.

Rabasotho Combined School and Diepsloot Youth Project are one school united under one vision – to provide quality education to all children irrespective of their background or circumstances. They stand together as a single entity because they believe that every student deserves an opportunity to flourish in a positive environment where teachers inspire them and students work together as a team towards common goals.

Diepsloot is a very well-known neighbourhood in South Africa. It has many schools, and the Youth Project is one of them. The school strives to help children from low-income families who face significant challenges on their way to success. They aim to increase overall enrolment, along with providing the necessary skills and knowledge in order for children to achieve their educational goals. Through this project, you can make a difference in the lives of these children!

How many times have you gone to a school, only to find out it’s closed? Or how many times have you been curious about what goes on at a youth project? If you are like us, then the answer is probably quite a few! That is why we decided to visit Diepsloot Youth Project Rabasotho Combined School, located in Diepsloot South Africa. The school has been running for more than 15 years now and provides quality education for learners of all ages. The combined school boasts about 23 teachers and over 300 learners who come from various SA towns and cities.

We had a great time chatting with Ms. Maneyika Banda, Principal of the Rabasotho Combined School. We learned that the school was started by the Diepsloot Youth Project with an aim to provide quality education to those who need it most. When asked about the upcoming plans of the school, Ms. Banda told us that they are working towards making learning fun and exciting for all their students. They also have joined hands with several companies and NGOs so that they can make education accessible to everyone!

Children are often the neglected ones in our day-to-day activities but not at Diepsloot Youth Project. The small NGO, started by a group of volunteers and educators, has a heart for kids and they show no signs of slowing down. Their combined school in Diepsloot is blowing minds with innovation and they never miss an opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause. From getting students vaccinated to providing them with furniture, clothes, books, stationery, etc., they have taken the lead in making education accessible for all.

This is just one example of how people can make a difference by giving back to the community. Let’s make it a habit!

The project has been running successfully in the area for the past 5 years. The aim of this project is to help the local youth acquire skills and value education. The curriculum is aligned with the South Africa Curriculum as well as other international textbooks.

Diepsloot Youth Project provides a conducive environment where children are able to thrive and develop academically, socially and emotionally.
