With the youth being aware about the harmful effects of drugs and their adverse consequences, they are picking up different ways to realize the same objective. Youth project Diepsloot is one such an initiative that sees a rise in awareness on drug abuse. The organization works towards curbing it, while providing substance abuse treatment to those who need it. Presently, there are 3 centers working towards this goal and spreading awareness on every corner of Johannesburg.

Around 1.5 million youth in South Africa are at risk of taking drugs, and these numbers are going up every year.

Reducing this alarming drug abuse involves engaging the young people who are most affected by it. Diepsloot Youth Project is a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to this demographic- from substance abuse treatment to education programs. Drugs are ruining youth lives and putting the future of our cities at risk. That’s why Diepsloot Youth Project is proud to be part of a global effort to stop the use of drugs. We work with young people in some of the toughest communities in South Africa, where we see real change when they come on our programs. We teach them about the dangers of drugs, provide them with resources that can help them overcome their addiction, and support their recovery so that they can live healthy and productive lives.

We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, so we run classes that are tailored to each participant’s needs. In a bid to combat drug abuse among kids, the Diepsloot Youth Project has come up with an interesting initiative. A team of doctors and volunteers will visit schools, malls and other venues to teach kids about the adverse effects of substance abuse and how it can be prevented. The team, which is being led by Dr Zeca Marques, will include a social worker, a counsellor and a pharmacist. This project will be run on Saturdays at the Diepsloot Mall from March 4th – April 29th.”

‘No one should have to choose between their dignity and their addiction,’ says the youth project in Diepsloot. That’s why DYP is working to keep drug abuse out of the community by offering programs that help people recover and rebuild their lives. They believe that through wellness, rehabilitation, and recovery, people can be empowered to take back control over their lives.
