S Sevissa is a self-confessed ‘tough girl’. She has had to be strong and patient when it comes to getting herself together. S Sevissa has lived in Diepsloot with her family since she was born, and she says that it’s where she feels most comfortable. Yet, there are times when he feels trapped by the surroundings. ‘When I feel that way, I remember the Youth Project in Diepsloot run by Diepsloot Youth Project. They provide good education and facilities for the kids in the area,’ says Sevissa.

She is confident about taking up any future opportunity that emerges for her because of her involvement with Youth Project. And what kind of future does she want? ‘To be honest, I don’t know yet but yes, I would like to become financially stable and independent.’

We recognize that a young person’s life is best lived when they are free from violence and abuse. That is why we offer Sevissa, a project that offers youth escape from violence and abuse. Not all youth are able to access services like this on their own, which is why DYP focuses on the power of community, reaching out to neighbors and creating safe spaces for those who need it most.
