Youth unemployment is a huge problem in South Africa. In 2015, youth unemployment stood at 25% (Stats SA). The Youth Project at Diepsloot aims to tackle this issue by providing skills and work experience to disadvantaged youth in the area. The project was started by a local businessman, who wanted to do something about youth unemployment and poverty in the area. Under his leadership, the youth have been provided with computer literacy and soft skills, such as interview skills, negotiation skills, and time management. They are also being introduced to different careers through workshops, job fairs, and bootcamps. This project is making a huge difference in the lives of disadvantaged youth in Diepsloot!

The youth of today are tech-savvy and have a unique understanding of the world around them. At the same time, they are also well aware that technology is quickly changing. What’s more, it is changing rapidly every year.

To equip the youth for this changing scenario and to make sure that they are tech-savvy sooner rather than later, Diepsloot Youth Project has launched its Technology Programme. The programme aims to help the youth understand and appreciate all the exciting changes that technology brings in our day-to-day lives.

The programme strives to teach them how to navigate through these changes and make use of these new technologies in their lives in an expert manner so that they can keep pace with the journey ahead!

When you’ve been taught not to feel like a product of society, when you’ve been taught that everyone is equal, it’s hard to put your identity in boxes. It’s easy to be lost in the crowd but what about when there are people out there who want to make sure that you know who you are?
