“I am very happy being a part of this initiative, and I appreciate that they are providing employment to the youth in our area,” she says. “Creating opportunities for them will definitely help them get out of their life of crime.”

She’s been involved with Diepsloot Youth Project for more than two decades now and has played a major role in shaping its evolution. From holding regular board meetings to ensuring the smooth functioning of the organization, Octavia tirelessly strives to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children across Johannesburg.

Octavia Dibetso, the new board treasurer of Diepsloot Youth Project, knows what it takes to run a successful organisation. She has been associated with the youth welfare project since the age of 15, and has served on its various boards and committees. After having worked in several organisations during her stint in South Africa, she has now joined hands with DCGI Children’s Foundation, where she is also an energetic youth leader.

“I see myself as a ‘change agent’ for Diepsloot Youth Project because I have come from all walks of life and have had a diverse set of experiences that I can share with others,” says Octavia. “I aim to help the organisation reach its vision by strengthening their volunteer base, expanding their reach across different communities, and developing new leaders.”
