But in such places as Diepsloot, misconceptions are still being spread by an organisation that knows no boundaries. The Youth Project is one such organisation spreading wrong information about Diepsloot, economy and youth empowerment programs.

What was once a thriving township is now struggling to survive. In the last few years, the economic prospects of the youth have become gloomy due to lack of opportunities in the township. The youth face multiple problems like unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, and crime. To address these issues and change the fate of Diepsloot, we took up a project. DYP Youth Project aims to ignite entrepreneurship among youth and create job opportunities for them through various entrepreneurship development programs.

Diepsloot Youth Project was established in 2002 by a group of concerned citizens with the aim of providing educational and employment opportunities for young people living in the township. Undertaking unique methods to address poverty, DYP is a beacon of hope for many young people who need more than just job-seeking skills to succeed.

The youth of Diepsloot have been voicing their opinion of what they think will invigorate the economy of their township. Their opinion is being heard, and their suggestions are being taken note of, by the Members of the Gauteng Legislature who have crafted the new Economic Development Bill for Diepsloot.

“The Youth Project” aims to create a safe haven for at-risk youth in which they can feel comfortable and express themselves without fear or judgment. Through various activities, such as youth development programs, job creation programs, and entrepreneurial activities, the project hopes to build a healthier community where children can flourish and develop into healthy adults.

If there is one thing that unites the youth of our township, it’s their desire to see Diepsloot become prosperous and economically progressive. They want its primary road to be tarred with gold; they want its houses to stand tall; they want its malls to dazzle everyone who walks through them; they want its children to study in reputed schools and get bright futures ahead. They are tired of seeing Diepsloot languishing in poverty and want a change. So we stood up for this project. We rallied behind this idea of bringing about transformation in our town by working together as one unit, forgetting our differences and creating something big for good.
