Diepsloot is one of the most vulnerable and crime-prone areas in Johannesburg. A staggering 78% of residents feel insecure when walking home at night, and only a quarter feel safe living there. The youth living in this area face various challenges, from drug abuse and gang violence to peer pressure and family problems. But one thing is for sure: it’s time for change! Meet the Diepsloot Youth Project – a community initiative working hard to make a difference in this neighbourhood by addressing some of its biggest problems.

DYP provides mentorship and support to at-risk youth, providing them with skills they need to succeed in life – such as financial literacy, time management, communication, etc. They do so through regular workshops, social activities, and more. It is their hope that by investing in their young people, they can help Diepsloot become a safer place to live and grow!

They will also provide support and advice to those who need it most. And they’re already seeing positive results! The team has found that by sharing their message with others and reaching out to those in need, they can make a difference in the lives of many people living in Diepsloot.

In every other corner of the city, there are youth organizations and programs to teach them about computers, knowledge, etiquette and more. But where do you know that the kids in Diepsloot get to learn these things?

Diepsloot Youth Project teaches the basics of life to the children living in deprived conditions. The organization aims at making a change in people’s perspective on the society by providing education and exposure. Kids are taught how to make friends and deal with issues related to friendship breakup, peer pressure, studying etc. They also learn how to dress smartly and speak a few words correctly.
