We’ve all been there — walking down the street, minding our own business, when a stranger approaches, then suddenly starts shouting and cursing or attacking. Or maybe you’re home alone when a strange man knocks on your door. In South Africa today, millions of women have faced these kinds of attacks on a daily basis. But we can’t let this happen anymore! Join us for Diepsloot Youth Project‘s Elimination of Violence against Women event on October 20th at 2pm in Belgoville/Waikovo. We’ll be talking about ways to live safely and confidently, learning new skills and overcoming fears so that we can take back our power! RSVP now because spaces are limited to 100 participants!

Gender inequality and violence against women prevail worldwide. To fight this menace, Diepsloot Youth Project was launched in 2010. The project is aimed at bringing about positive change in the society by providing a platform and a safe space for young girls to speak out their mind, find solutions to problems, and empower each other to become more aware of gender-based violence that they face everyday.

We are proud of our accomplishments so far and we never tire of working towards making the world a safer place for all women!

Women are often scared to walk alone at night, especially when they don’t feel safe. For the women of Diepsloot, however, it is a different story. They walk home everyday without fear because of their local gang-prevention program called ‘Diepsloot Youth Project’. By engaging them with social workers and psychologists, they have been taught how to stay safe on their own.

The aim of this project is not just to prevent violence against women but also to shape responsible citizens in the community by teaching them about human rights, respect for one another and laws that govern us all.

Do you not know that a woman is one-half of a man? Do you know what violence against women means?

Have you heard about DVT and the ways to prevent it? If not, then let us enlighten your mind and answer all your queries. Diepsloot Youth Project has come up with an initiative in eradicating violence against women. We chose this path because we did not want our daughters to grow up playing cricket on the streets, but instead, wanted them to be educated and empowered to stay safe.

Where women are not safe and what’s more, if a girl is raped or even harassed by someone in her family, she is blamed for it. This injustice has to be stopped as soon as possible. That’s why we’re here with our youth project, Diepsloot Youth Project! We want to teach our children the value of life by teaching them how important and powerful each one of us is. We believe that educating young people on gender issues will help them become better human beings and will create healthier relationships between men and women. So join us in the fight against gender-based violence!
