Patients with AIDS are a group at high risk for tuberculosis infection, owing to the increased risk of latent tuberculosis infection. This project has been evaluating disease patterns, treatment and prognosis of tuberculosis in patients diagnosed with AIDS. The data collected is being used to guide medical practitioners regarding appropriate strategies for TB management in AIDS patients.
Output: We often hear that young people are more prone to certain diseases, but it goes without saying that taking care of them is the most important thing we can do. Youth Projects aims to make sure that young people have access to the best healthcare services available so they can thrive from birth until old age.
We work throughout South Africa, Uganda and Tanzania building clinics and schools where children can grow up strong and healthy. By doing this we are changing lives one child at a time by providing clean water, vaccinations and healthcare services free of charge.
Diepsloot Youth Projects attends to the needs of over 1,000 HIV+ men, women and children from all walks of life. For over 25 years now, DYP has been serving them in their hour of need. And as an organization that constantly learns and adapts to changing times, DYP is well positioned to understand the intricacies and challenges associated with treating AIDS patients who are also enduring tuberculosis.
What that means is that the organization has the expertise necessary to identify whether a patient might be suffering from both diseases or if they have already been successfully treated for TB. With this knowledge at hand, they can then provide appropriate treatment and counseling services that will help them overcome both conditions on their own. In fact, by working together with other health providers across South Africa and beyond, DYP hopes to continue its efforts towards eliminating these deadly diseases altogether in diepsloot!
