At young age, we are taught to be honest. We are told of the benefits of keeping things clean and clear. And then when we grow up, when we have a say in things, why would we follow in others’ footsteps? Like Kamogelo from Diepsloot Youth Project (DYP), South Africa. But why oh why do people resort to corruption no matter the situation?
We send our kids to school with bags full of goodies so that they can feel lucky on their first day at school, but what about those that do not share this sentiment? Why is it that some choose to remain dishonest even without getting caught?
Kamogelo gets her answers when she – along with three other women – visits Diepsloot Youth Project (DYP) in Johannesburg. Trained by experts, they participate in a discussion on corruption and how to fight it. The session ends with them unleashing their knowledge on the attendees, who go away better-informed about what is happening around them and how they can take action.
Diepsloot Youth Project is a non-profit organisation that strives to bring about positive change in the lives of disadvantaged and marginalised youth. Kamogelo Skhungwaphela, the Founder and CEO of DYYP has set up numerous projects that aim to provide opportunities for youth who otherwise would have none. Her work is driven by a desire to see South Africa become a more equal society where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed and live a happy life.
DYYP seeks to do this by creating pathways for these youth where they can be successful in school, developing their talents and finding employment. We also work closely with local government officials in providing guidance and assistance so that our young people can break free from the cycle of poverty and crime.
Kamogelo is committed to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most, and we are proud to partner with her on such an important project!
Youth need inspiration. They need to see that the world doesn’t move at its own pace, but rather is going at a certain speed and they too join in the journey. Diepsloot Youth Project (DYP) by Kamogelo does just that; it tells youth about the various challenges that come their way, teaches them about being a leader, and also lets them know about how they can change the world for better.
DYP is an initiative of Sabin Global Projects where we believe in working towards making our society peaceful, humane and free from corruption.
South Africa has a reputation of being one of the most corrupt countries in the world. But, what if I tell you that most of it is not true? What if I tell you that there exists a youth project working closely with the government to help rid corruption from South Africa?
Diepsloot Youth Project is one such project where Kamogelo, a young person from South Africa gives her view on corruption in her country.
South Africa is home to all types of people, cultures and religions. The richness of our culture is what makes us stand out amongst other countries. However, the question that arises in everyone’s mind is – how corruption has gripped this country? How widespread it is? And what’s being done to tackle it? Meet Kamogelo – a girl with a view on the same.
“When I look at South Africa today, I wonder where have all the leaders gone! I never see them around anymore! There are moments when I feel like taking off my pin-striped pants and going naked for everyone to see!” says Kamogelo. “I know there are many places that feel this way too! When we see corruption everywhere, it makes us wonder about the future of our country!”
