Young people believe that they are having the same experience as others and this way they feel more confident to participate in various social media platforms. They feel like experts and speak with authority. But youth literacy is not shying away from critical issues that are also relevant to them. Educators, parents, and policy-makers know how important it is to give youth access to accurate information that is relevant to their lives. And Diepsloot Youth Projects has been working towards this goal by providing media and information literacy programs across the city for many years now. These programs teach young people about how media works, what the role of a journalist or a content creator is, etc., so that when they grow up, they will be able to participate in online discussions responsibly and with confidence. Recently, DYP has partnered with CNN International for its ‘Train Up: Making News Literate’ program at DYP’s KwaZulu-Natal Head Office in Pietermaritzburg. Train Up: Making News Literate teaches young people about journalism through interactive classes and on-screen training modules on CNN Noticias TV channel.’
Kindergarten is a time when the world starts to make sense. It’s a time when you learn the alphabet, count, and connect with other kids. During this process, you’re also introduced to media and information – crucial skills that will help you in many ways throughout your life.
So it’s high time we introduce another amazing project of Diepsloot Youth Projects: Media and Information Literacy. We aim to educate our boys and girls on how they can use these two important skills to become successful individuals of the 21st century!
If you find it difficult to understand news stories, if you want to know what’s happening in the world, but don’t have an in with the media or the information literacy experts in your locality, then join us! Youth Projects is a not-for-profit organization that provides media and information literacy skills to youth.
With our workshops and mentorship programs, we teach them how to be critical thinkers and how to navigate through complex information. Our ultimate goal is to equip them with the necessary tools so that they can make informed decisions about their future.
We believe that every single person has a voice and deserves to be heard. By educating and empowering young people, we are helping them realize their potential and bringing our society closer together!
We all know the power of information and media, but how exactly do they shape our understanding of a particular event or trend? Ask Diepsloot Youth Projects, who keep track of what is being said about a certain issue. From keeping tabs on the ways in which citizens are responding to an event or taking up a cause, DYP is there to keep you informed.
The Youth Project’s aim is simple: to create more informed citizens who truly understand the world around them. That’s why we’ve set up our own space where information and media literacy can flourish. We believe that everyone should have access to accurate and unbiased information so they can make well-informed decisions.
