He’s the founder of Diepsloot Youth Project, a non-profit organization that aims to empower underprivileged youth by providing them with opportunities and skills so they can have a brighter future. Mmathapelo started out as a young boy selling newspapers in order to raise some money for himself and his family. Little did he know that this would become the first step towards changing his community for the better. Today, DYP is an established not-for-profit that has helped hundreds of youth acquire marketable skills and acquire an education. They believe that if you give back, then it will one day come back to you tenfold!

Diepsloot is a notorious township in Soweto, South Africa. Its name has become synonymous with crime, violence, and despair. However, Diepsloot Youth Project is changing this perception by showing that there is hope for change in the community. Mmathapelo Moyo is one of those who are leading the change by showing the world that there’s no limit to what can be done with a single cohesive effort.
In February 2015, Mmathapelo started a project at his school to help children in his neighborhood. He wanted to make a difference in their lives but he didn’t know how. Eventually, he came up with an idea: building homes together. The idea sounded simple but it was one that required a lot of commitment and hard work from himself and all other volunteers involved in the project. He understood the power of teamwork and that’s why he did it himself along with other volunteers. They gathered funds and materials for the project which took about 2 months to finish.
Mmathapelo Moyo is a Diepsloot 2021 success story. The young man works hard to support his family, but he also makes an impact on the society by engaging in educational and community initiatives.
“When you work hard, you get rewarded,” says Mmathapelo Moyo. He’s always been that way, and it’s why he continues to be successful today. Along with being a strong leader, Mmathapelo is also an educated individual who knows how to take advantage of every opportunity he gets.
He’s a Diepsloot 2021 success story because he loves where he lives and wants everyone to know about its potential. He’s got big dreams and goals, and that’s what makes him special!
